Stephen Harper is Un-Canadian

With the situation In Canada getting worse each say as far as corporate greed and the lack of government accountability is concerned, I can’t fathom, or rather simply don’t understand why the 99% of us Canadians who are essentially victims, don’t band together and demand effective change before it truly is too late to do so.

Anyone with a tad of mental acuity can see that Stephen Harper is not an asset, but rather a growing burden to this great nation. His lack of environmental concern is an atrocity, and his goal of turning Canada into a police state is becoming a frightening reality.

Under the guise of declaring a war on drugs, and specifically marijuana, he is building a nation of super jails that in the end will house those who publicly oppose his growing regime, and those ordinary Canadians like you and I, who simply cannot feed their families because of his unethical and controversial business practices.

Quite simply put, Stephen Harper is UN-CANADIAN, and not only should he be removed from his position as Prime Minister by ‘We the People’, but we should demand that the future of Canada truly become the democracy that it was intended to be. That ‘We the People’ be consulted, and be an active part of all political decisions and laws that affect our nation as a whole. That those decisions that are made behind closed doors and without our consent are no longer viable, and that we shall rewrite the books on Canadian Political structure. It is our right.

I would implore all Canadians to stand up and speak out and to fight for that which is truly ours.

This is the greatest country in the world, but it won’t remain that way much longer if we continue to allow the government we elected to sell us out to the greedy corporations who metaphorically speaking, would have us all face down in the dust begging for crumbs, when it was our ancestors who built these great bakeries with their sweat and blood.

Locking Up The Voices Of Our Sisters & Our Brothers

Conservative government has no rhythm or rhyme
All they can do is put fear into the elders and say they are tough on crime
And spew more lies time after time

They have no diplomacy or empathy for others
They lock up the voices of our sisters and brothers
They make terrorists out of nature lovers

From one hand they steal our hard earned money from us
Giving with the other to their puppet masters we mistrust
Leaving us with nothing but toxic water and dust

They do not care about the health of this great mother earth
They would rather have you as slave of fear of jobs from birth
And keep you unaware of your true worth

Though many are aware of the evil they do
They just seem to leave the battle up to me and you

We're Too Polite

Maybe the "grassroots" will wake up and realize what is going on. $5M in tax cuts to a U.S. company just so they can pack up and leave! Where is the accountability? The U.S. has a "buy American" policy but we Canadians just throw our hands up and say "oh, whatever." We're too polite. We're the best country in the world and it's about time we started to look out for our own.

Will This Tactic Be Used On Your Union?

Pierre-Karl Péladeau's was successful in quashing our union, the Worker's Union at the Journal de Montreal (STIJM). We are a mere shadow of what we once were.

We were locked out for 764 days. When 227 employees decided to accept the terms of the employer and return to work, 80 per cent of the staff had been dismantled, with those remaining few forced to suffer a nearly 20 per sent salary reduction. Now, Quebecor has unlimited rights to use the work of these writers who daily build the pages of all the Quebecor Empire publications and internet sites.

But the STJIM has not simply lost in numbers. Their leadership has been all but destroyed. Exhausted, both psychologically and physically, few are the individuals willing to fight for the cause as members on our executive committee.

For our colleagues in the Journal offices and classifieds, the transition back to work has been trying. Forced to re-integrate within a replacement team assembled during their absence, it feels as though they’d left their home for two years, only to return to strangers sleeping in their beds.

As a result of this conflict, the media will never be the same. The presidents and general directors of other large press companies followed our fight closely. Seeing Péladeau's great success, I have no doubt that this tactic will be used again in other cities, against other unions.

Ontario Municipal Board is Useless

I went to the Ontario Municipal Board to save a wetland, a creek and rare species by securing new tests for groundwater and surface water. I won my case by securing the testsing but before the tests began, the city and conservation authority authorized de-watering of the creek and grading activities that dramatically altered the area. After they de-watered the creek they began testing! I called the Ontario Municipal Board, the police, the RCMP, the city, Region, the Department of Fisheries, the Ontario Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Natural Resources only to find out there is no enforcement for OMB rulings in Ontario. That if I wanted to stop the violation I would have to hire a lawyer and pay out of pocket to pursue contempt of court charges in the Superior Courts. I spent tens of thousands to secure the initial ruling in hopes it would assure a reasonable measure of compliance but when I saw violations, I could not afford to stop them. They did this 8 months after the original ruling was issued. The Ontario Municipal Board in my view is absolutely useless unless their rulings have some enforcement agency to help assure compliance. To rely on the public to enforce provincial law is totally unreasonable. The city and the developers got away with it because they can afford to be non compliant whereas I can't afford access to justice.
